Taurus Lunar Eclipse Nov 19, 2021

Highlighted visual of the Sun and Moon sitting near the lunar nodes for the partial lunar eclipse on November 19, 2021.

On Nov 19, 2021 there is a partial lunar eclipse. This eclipse occurs with the Sun sitting at 27º Scorpio and the Moon opposing at 27º Taurus, which creates a Full Moon that is partly covered by the shadow of the Earth. It will be visible from the United States.

LUNAR NODES DEFINED

An eclipse occurs when a New or Full Moon happens near the lunar nodes. The lunar nodes are points where the orbit of the Moon intersects the ecliptic plane. Essentially, an eclipse happens when the Moon and Sun align with the Earth. The Earth will move between the Sun and Moon. This is a partial eclipse because the alignment is not perfect. The closer the New or Full Moons happen to the nodes, the more perfect the alignment is between the Sun, Moon, and Earth. A total solar or lunar eclipse occurs when the New or Full Moon happens very close to or exactly on the nodes.

HISTORY & PRACTICE

Historically, eclipses have negative connotations and were thought to be powerfully problematic omens that cause malfunction, natural disasters, and sometimes the death of a leader. It is widely believed that one should not initiate anything during an eclipse or it will yield poor results. Think of it like a power outage. Manifestations and intention-setting should not be done on eclipses either for the same reason. Setting out your crystals in the “moonlight” on the eclipse is also not recommended.

TAURUS/SCORPIO ECLIPSE CYCLE DEFINED

From now until October 2023, anytime there is a New or Full Moon in Taurus or Scorpio, it will be happening close to the lunar nodes. This will be the first of seven eclipses of the Taurus/Scorpio eclipse cycle. It will be the only eclipse of this cycle with the nodes sitting in Gemini and Sagittarius, where they have been since May 2020. The lunar nodes move backward through the zodiac and will move into Taurus and Scorpio on January 18, 2022. They will transit there until July 17, 2023. Five of seven eclipses of this cycle occur with the nodes in Taurus and Scorpio. The very last eclipse of this cycle occurs with the nodes in Aries and Libra.

GEMINI/SAGITTARIUS ECLIPSE CYCLE ENDING

Since May 2020 when the nodes first entered Gemini and Sagittarius, there has been an overconsumption of misinformation, half-truths, and uncertainty (North Node in Gemini) and a major decrease in travel, optimism, and trusting those who are well-educated (South Node in Sagittarius). When this upcoming lunar eclipse happens, it will be the start of the collective realizing that our material, physical, and emotional stability needs to become a priority rather than arguing about what is “true”.

MEANING OF THE TAURUS/SCORPIO ECLIPSE CYCLE

The North Node in Taurus can bring feelings of scarcity related to money, material things, the ability to flourish, and feelings of worth. We could feel compelled to indulge in pleasure and create value for ourselves. This turns into an urgency to maintain these things, which can easily become overindulgent and excessive. The South Node in Scorpio can bring feelings of loss, vulnerability, and feeling a lack of power and control. The collective will need to learn how to manage feelings of anger, hatred, and passion while healing issues related to intimacy. Of course not everyone will experience this in the same way, but overall, we will be dealing with whether or not we can stabilize our material, physical, and emotional well-being. Do we have all the resources we need to survive and thrive?

THIRD DECAN OF TAURUS

Astrologer Austin Coppock defines the last ten degrees of Taurus in his book, 36 Faces. This third Taurus decan is ruled by Saturn and has to do with being prepared to deal with misfortune and mitigating risk. Even if we do everything right, we are still subject to things that are out of our control. Arrogance and hubris can lead to ruin. Protecting yourself with insurance or a backup plan is part of the process of cultivation. It’s important to be humble enough to know that you are not immune to disaster or failure. Keep this in mind as you reflect on your relationship with money, self-worth, and the resources you have available to prosper.

ASPECT TO PLUTO

This lunar eclipse will be trine to Pluto, planet of the underworld. This configuration will only add more intensity. Pluto has the ability to reach deep down into our subconscious and pull out hidden truths. It forces us to confront our issues of power and control. I would recommend doing a bit of shadow work as this eclipse approaches because otherwise Pluto will do it for you. When it comes to your ability to survive and thrive, do you feel controlled or do you feel powerful? Are you abusing your position of power or are you stuck in a victim mindset? In what ways could you add more stability to your life? Keep in mind that you are not exempt from devastation. Don’t allow yourself to get consumed by any negative thoughts that may come up. Wait at least 72 hours after the eclipse to begin taking action on these issues.

LOOK DEEPER

People with significant placements near 27º Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius in their birth chart will feel this partial lunar eclipse the most. Check your birth chart to see which houses hold the Taurus and Scorpio axis. This will indicate which specific areas of life will be experiencing climaxes and turning points.
